Orin is a Bodyguard by choice, providing protection to Merchants and Researchers who must travel abroad. He is well travelled thanks to this business and independently wealthy from it.He's travelled from Eorzea to the Azim Steppe to Sharlayan. On the Steppe he was taken as a slave for the Dawn Throne and learned the way of the warrior, earning his freedom with acts of courage and valor. Though he would not like a repeat of his imprisonment, he looks fondly on his time there.

Orins parents are Hannish cloth merchants, who specialize in the creation of fine silks and cottons to sell abroad and locally. Orin having been raised in the factory is an accomplished weaver himself, who has helped make many patterns his family still sell and make to this day.Though he's set himself apart from the life his family wishes for him at the moment, his love of the craft has not faltered and he still finds himself longing for a day of lounging before a loom or the simple act of embroidering an image from his mind to cloth.

Failing Sight
A big reason Orin will not follow his parents in their craft is Orins eyes are failing him. He is quiet about the matter, but years of direct sunlight and an unknown genetic issue has caused his eyes to lose vision and it grows worse each passing year. He puts as much of the world before his fading sight as he can before he can no longer see it. You cant do that from a Factory.

Orin is Duskwight, adopted by two Hannish midlander hyur who found the 5 yr old rummaging through their cart when they were loading cargo onto their ship. His mother, Fatima, scooped the dirty youth up and when they found he was alone, they took him home to Thavnir and raised him as their own. He loves his parents deeply, and would do anything to keep them safe.
